When I left Kansas for New York a friend’s child asked me if things in Kansas were really black and white. That was insightful. I spent 30 colorful and creative years in New York City. Weaving and knitting became my passion. My studio was a uniquely creative environment. We produced handwoven coats and sweaters for Mary McFadden and Michael Vollbracht as well as our own label. Once we wove fabrics for a client’s airplane. We produced a tapestry for the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. My work was in VOGUE and HARPERS BAZAAR where I had a cover.
When Vollbracht lost his funding from Johnny and Joanna Carson we published a book of his portraits entitled NOTHING SACRED. I then went on to work for my customers, Elizabeth Taylor and Cher.
Following New York, we moved to a small coastal town in South Carolina where I began a 10 year career as a mosaic artist. I did sculptural and framed pieces along with some mixed media with whimsical themes. Later in Texas I began to work with fiber again. My work is based on a technique of coiling; wrapping silks, wools and handmade papers over a central cord. The move from fashion to interiors has perhaps been the most fulfilling of my career.
